Writing Center consultants

What Is the Writing Center?

It's a place where...

  • American University students meet with other AU students to talk about writing.
  •  Students meet with student consultants—undergrad and graduate students themselves—who understand your writing needs.
  •  Writing consultants are happy to work with you on any writing project, from essays to cover letters and application essays.

In free, 45-minute consultations, we will work with you on issues such as:

  • Interpreting a writing assignment
  • Generating ideas
  • Locating and sharpening a thesis statement
  • Organizing ideas and research
  • Developing logical arguments
  • Polishing your prose
  • Finding strategies for revising
  • Identifying recurrent errors

"Students prepare papers, we prepare students."
