New Student Programs

Welcome Week 2012

Welcome Week takes place this year from Saturday, August 18 (the first day freshmen can move into residence halls), to Wednesday, September 5. During the week before classes begin, most first-year students participate in one of AU’s hallmark welcome programs. These include–but are not limited to–the Freshman Service Experience, Discover DC, or one of AU’s new faculty- or staff-led programs.

Last year, more than two-thirds of the freshman class participated in these programs, which provide engaging ways to get to know your host city and other new students before classes start. The fee for each program is $115.

Welcome Week culminates with events on Friday, August 24, which include AU’s Opening Convocation, welcomes from each school and college, and the All-American BBQ. Then, from August 25 through September 5, AU offices and student groups will offer exciting ways for you to get involved on campus and in the city. You’ll receive more information in early June about these programs and instructions for how to register.
