American University's Gap Program will provide you with an enriching experience. With an internship and two AU classes, you will set the foundation for future internships and professional development, while earning 7 college credits. This program is an excellent option if you have just completed high school and are taking a year before starting college.

American University's English language and Training Academy (ELTA) is an intensive, full-time ESL (English as a Second Language) program for students who wish to improve their academic English language skills while becoming closely oriented with American culture and university life.

The Mentorship Program offers enriching internship or international study experiences for students offered spring admission to American University. Established in 1947, the Washington SemesterĀ® Program is an experiential learning academic program that includes 8 credits of academic seminar in one of 12 topic areas, 4 credits of internship, and 3-4 credits of independent research or elective course.

Students gain hands-on skills interning for nine weeks in Washington DC with a professional organization and augment their hands-on experience by attending a seminar once a week in their field of study.
